types of chest pains?

First thing I want to say/request is that, I'd like to not get blanket statements of "go to the ER" or something.
And I'll clarify with the reason I ask that... a complication that is quite frustrating.
I'll clarify that in a minute, but first, I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on the different types of chest pains people can get.

This morning I had a dream that I had been struck by lightning. I'll spare the details. I remember telling someone I was okay but then my chest hurt... when I woke up, my chest did hurt... and there was a thunderstorm. Ha.
Anyway...
I've had a pain like this before. It's in the general area of the heart, but it can be very difficult to pinpoint certain pain locations... :/
Anyway, it was like something poking, like a finger poke, not a "sharp" pain... not quite dull, but not sharp. Very brief. Pain... gone. Pain... gone. Happened off and on for a minute there. The pain lasted about a second at most.
A couple hours later I felt it just two more times, a few minutes apart. Felt it again a couple times this evening.
I took my blood pressure earlier today. Not first thing, but that later occurrence. 118 over 78. Pulse 61. Fairly normal. No other symptoms that would justify an ER trip.

So first... thoughts on what could cause that?????

Now for the clarification. I've had different types of chest pains throughout my life. I'm 48. I eat a bit too much sweets... have what looks like a beer belly... years of ice cream. I've cut back drastically... working on healthier snacking options. (why is it so hard to not snack???)
No smoking. No drugs or alcohol. Can count all the drinks I've even just tasted in my life on one hand. Took one long drag off a cigarette when I was 12-14 years old when my big sister "made" me try it. Burned like crazy and never tried it again. (why do people do that?) I don't get enough exercise but I'm not in horrible shape.

I do have mitral valve prolapse. I also have pectus excavatum. My chest sinks in. It looks bad... and it was "repaired" back when I was about 7 or 8. Not the greatest job... it's sunk in a bit all the way across, not just in the middle. I wonder if it didn't heal well? (they have more efficient methods of treating it these days. Back then, it involved breaking the breast bone...( hmmm. maybe, I can't find any description of the OLD technique. I had no metal inserted into me... no plates or rods. They've updated their techniques a lot. Wish I had it repaired better when I was a kid. Has been hard on my self esteem, as well as stamina when it comes to exercise. :( )
In college, I bumped into someone that went to elementary school with me. He somehow remembered my chest, and that I could put a tennis ball in it and it would stay there.
My lung capacity is diminished because of my chest. My heart is a bit turned and to the side from where it normally would be.
A decade or more ago I had tests done. Probably some since then but it's been a while. Stress test. Ekgs and echos and what not. (they found the mitral valve prolapse in there somewhere).
One time I was in there because the chest pains I was getting were different, and sharp... they found nothing. My doctor said it might be just because of my chest wall. I asked/said that maybe this would make it hard for me to ever know if I was having a heart attack. He said, yes...
I was in another time because my heart was skipping beats. After it skips a beat, the next beat is bigger and, you can feel it... it's weird.
That first happened over 20 years ago... It was so infrequent, and it would only happen once... that I never could catch it to be sure of what was happening.
But one year, it started happening a lot. I took a halter monitor home. They found nothing troubling. The doctor said that even if it skipped every other beat, that would be "normal."
ugh... no... that's not normal. Blah... doctors.
Anyway...
I get heartburn once in a while... not often. It's debilitating(if I'm diagnosing myself correctly) when it happens. OUCH... earlier on, I didn't know that's what it was, so I just suffered til it went away. I found that, SOMETIMES, sucking air in as if you were making yourself burp could help. Sometimes water helped. My son has heartburn now(more than I) so we have antacids around, and I have discovered that particular pain was heartburn because, well, the tums(generic) helped. That's not often though, and that pain is specific.
This is something else.
But, I can't afford to run to the doctor or ER every time my chest hurts. They'd get sick of me and my insurance... I'm on Medicaid. I've had BIG issues with them at times... have had to fight for things at times. :(
Anyway...
This pain today has been uncomfortable... but, very brief. Pain... gone... that quick. It's unsettling... but, I don't think there's any tests they could run that would find anything.

I've been to enough doctors to know how they work. They might run some tests and then tell you, everything looks okay... go home.
yay...
There was the pain again... very brief... gone... Blah.

Not medical advice, but I think I fought the same thing years ago... before I figured out what is was.
Severe chest pain, even went to the ER a couple of times.
They would do an EKG and tell me that my heart was just fine, and to just relax...
Gone in a couple hours.
The last doctor, after running lots of tests, said: "it's just muscle spasms".
For years I have kept Methocarbamol, (a muscle-relaxer) handy and stop it before it starts.
I know I am prone to spasms, because I have had them in my lower back, (caused by stress) so bad, I couldn't even put my pants on. :(
That's when the Dr turned me onto Methocarbamol. Works like magic! Pain gone in a half hour!:D
It's not a hard-drug, and with no bad side effects (it may make you lazy:ROFLMAO:).
Ask your doctor, they will prescribe it to anyone, it's only about 3 notches above aspirin.
Edit: It has been in common use in the US since 1957, with 5 million prescriptions in 2023.

Pain is your body trying to tell you something.
And you having a dream about it, is another red flag.
The ER if it gets worse, and a doctor as soon as you can.

Write down things so you don't forget anything to tell
the doctor. Stressing about things with no answers
is not a good thing. The life you save maybe your own.

I am sorry to hear you are in pain. I hope that you will find relief soon.

This is not medical advice: just a possible observation from what I understand
if you search these topics together, you will find information - I just added a few links available.

the chest pain and the eczema you are experiencing (from another post) may go hand in hand

my understanding is this :
gut imbalance can cause eczema

gut imbalance can cause gas, heartburn

heartburn and gas can cause chest pain

I have had gas that causes chest pain, not comfortable :(

fastest way to kill the heart burn that ails you

cut the sugar and carbs from your diet

you are going to hate this suggestion as you like your sweets , I used to like my ice cream , pastry , pasta , pizza , rice , pop , ......

but both I an my late wife found heart burn was largely caused by the sugar and carbs. if not entirely.
when she was diagnosed with cancer the doc said eat anything you want , she did and every time she did it was Tums to the rescue

if you find you use tums or similar antacid often as in weekly or more , cut the carbs , you can thank me later.

First, I agree with getting some muscle relaxers if possible. I have had muscle spasms in my chest a few times and that helped during those episodes.

I also have A-fib attacks every year or so since turning 50. Mine requires being put to sleep and shocked to go back into rhythm. Some folks heart will jump in and out on its own.

I know you said funds were tight but if you can budget it, one of these portable EKG devices is very valuable in determining a real heart issue. While it won’t show a heart attack, it can show raised rate and any rhythm issues. Either are signs of a more serious issue.

Best of luck getting it figured out!

Instead of tums, you might try betaine hcl (OTC). As we get older, we tend to produce less stomach acid, so Betaine HCL will help digestion.

Something that helps me with chest discomfort is N-AcetylCholine (NAC), also OTC.

However, if it has been years since you were checked out, seeing a cardiologist is the thing to do.

I will re-read all of these thoughts again. I appreciate it.
I SHOULD get something that checks heart rhythms for myself... and maybe for my son. He's 19. He's had some issues that we think are related to not drinking enough... some of have been rather scary.
Anyway......

Got a question about gut bacteria. What do you do about it?(whether or not that has anything to do with this)

I used to eat yogurt only once in a while, and it was always the cheaper Yoplait stuff. Now, I eat greek yogurt(if it's flavored well) more often.
My body sure has changed over the years. Why do they do that? Ugh...
As a teen, my step brother and I once tried to stay up all night. Drank Jolt Cola(nayone remember that?) AND took caffeine pills. Slept like a baby. In college, still, caffeine did nothing. I didn't drink it often... never enjoyed coffee.
Somewhere in my 30's... what happened. One night, coffee ice cream kept me up all night.
I wonder if it's from being less active and not always eating well, my metabolism slowed down and that just changed everything? Like maybe whatever even causes the eczema is related to these changes? First 20-30 years of my life, eczema wasn't an issue... then, one day, it was. Treated it and didn't see it for years. Now, it comes and goes often enough.
Anyway... how to practically keep gut health as good as you can??????
I like to snack. It will be easier to change what I snack on rather than just not snacking at all.
Would be nice if I could afford a private chef or something... would be real nice.
HA.
