Will Geese Eat Grasshoppers?

I've got grasshopper issues. It makes me wonder if geese will eat them.

I've got coyote proof fencing and thinking that a large goose, the bigger the better, might be too big for any of the local hawks. That would leave the bald eagles as the only danger.

The problem is, geese are always listed as vegetarians. Well, I know they will eat fish and fish aren't vegetables. Will they eat bugs and are they quick enough to catch grasshoppers?

Try guineas, chickens, or muscovies if you want to cure a grasshopper problem. Geese won't do it.

Guineas won't destroy your garden - unless they scratch up seed beds while they sunbathe. Chickens and 'scovies may very well destroy a garden.

My geese chased them and crunched them but didn't swallow them. I think it was a I'm bord and want something to do thing but they did it all grass hopper season. The best ones for hunting grass hoppers were my minis. They were small fast and dedicated. Chickens also did well in the hunt. My geese watch for hawks so I can have my minis. My minis provide eggs and entertainment. They all kill grasshoppers - at least last year they did but they were spring chicks so that may change, I don't know.
