How is the American economic system failing?

Because not everyone is prosperous?
What is your definition of prosperous?

The issue is, if you were listening to the video, is debt. The the American economic system is borrowing money to make up the shortfalls. What accounts for shortfalls other than government spending? This is not going to go on much longer. This country will not borrow and spend its way to continued prosperity. If our country is continuing to run deficits and the Federal Reserve continues to print money to monetize debt and cover for the billionaires on Wall Street, where does that leave the rest of us in Mainstreet America?

Do you have any idea how the system will balance itself? Any ideas?

It's a system of debt. They are forced to create more debt constantly in order to pay for the previous debt. This is a result of our departure from sound money and onto a fiat system.

It's never going to change until after it all comes crashing down, when it does there will eb a huge wealth transfer and those who pull the strings will glide away to safety with what is left of our wealth. When thats done, we can only hope that the people are smart enough to reconfigure the system. What can we do about it?

Become as self reliant as possible. Put your money into things that can help provide you with the necessities. Stop depending on the store to provide you with everything you need.

I'm pretty sure the huge wealth transfer has already happened. 2007-2008

Prosperous to me is not worrying at all, about how one is going to pay the electric bill and is maybe considering a vacation or new porch, in the future.

We have had debt issues for many, many years, both for the Government and people's personal finances. They have been getting out of control and the 08' recession, made it much worse.

It not all just about a debt and spending problem. Prices and taxes are sky-high, businesses are down and many people do not have jobs.

I don't think the system will ever "balance itself out", but the debt can be reduced gradually with wiser spending and a focus on debt reduction.

BTW, many other countries have debt problems, even conservative ones.

Anyone can be wealthy in America, if they want to. We all just want to sit around and have someone else, hand us some of their wealth.

It's much easier.

How about we just start with us being able to make sure every one has food. Then we can go from there.

Why is the US economic system failing?
Simple its all the government programs that transfer wealth.
We just cant keep enriching the rich at the expence of the poor and middle classes .They have run out of money.

Uncle Sam is planning on spending $71 BILLION, on food stamps this year, of which almost $800 million, is fraud.

Is is alwas a matter of not having food, or is it often a matter, of no one willing to cook it?

Kids go to school hungry, maybe relying on Govt breakfast, when a bowl of cereal and some milk, is low cost and takes 60 seconds to prepare.

I don't for one second believe this to be the case. The answer can be found by asking this question; how is the government able to pay out huge sums of $ even when outlays far exceed revenues, even in the face of a growing debt that can not now, be easily repaid, if at all?

Another issue is with the word wealth. What really is wealth?

Honestly, how many people are forced, live without electricity in America, due to poverty?
Just a few I'm sure.
Perhaps not even a million. Most of the homeless, some of the poor some that live with someone else those that live in their cars etc.
But the point I was making is hunger isn't as simple as you make it sound.
For instance when your living on minimum wage and your fridge goes bad coming up with the money for a new one may be near impossible.
Worse yet remember a lot of the people are challenged in other ways. They don't have the resources mental, physical or financial that you take for granted.

The answer to your question is simple,By borrowing. LOL What do you think the government is borrowing that money for?

That is easily discerned. Right now SS is operating in the hole, so they are borrowing to pay the retirees. How long is that going to keep happening?

Back to my premise, what is the government borrowing?

Is that a problem? I don't recall anyone complaining that SS was operating at a surplus for more than 25 years, averaging a $100 billion surplus each of those 25 years.

The purpose of collecting that surplus, totaling $2.6 trillion at this point, was to fund the baby boomers' retirement. The fact that SS is now running a deficit is not a sign that the system is failing, but that it's doing exactly what they thought it would to do as far back as the Reagan administration.

Long before the Reagan administration, the politicians knew the SS system would go broke when they began raiding it. It's just that the people didn't realize this.

Reagan didn't push for SS reform for no reason. By 1983 there was a lot of pressure to change things somehow. I can't say exactly when it started, but Reagan promised us that we had an "iron clad promise" to make good on our contributions in 1983.
