Thanks but I’m moving on. The group is not what I thought it was going to be. I wish you all well in your homesteading journey.

So sorry to read this. I was afraid this would happen when you were jumped on. This is not the first time a poster with individualistic ideas has been chased away by a few _ folk.

Your posts were informative and worth following.

It's a natural reaction to become defensive when insulted. Especially when the insultor proceeds to gush about how they are better.

"There was a thread about grocery store prices which I found odd on a homesteading forum. I thought the homesteader is a self sufficient sort with little need for stores (especially for food). That thread does not seem geared towards the theme of this forum (homesteading). It sounded like a discussion of city dwellers or suburbanites."

The poster has been on Permies for years. In fact, he is on several other homesteading sites and forums, and he has his own blog. I think all his posts feed his youtube channel. Lots of good info, but usually the same things get posted on all the sites he frequents.

best of luck finding the people you are looking for , as Cabin Fever mentioned this place changed a lot in the last 15 years , corporate ownership might be partially to blame it feels like it started to loose it's soul when Chuck sold it I can't blame him it was a good move for him and his family , then strife and Angie was gone.
Others left along the way , others got old , plenty of good folks passed away.

if you find yourself a good home on the internet maybe stop back and give us a little update on where you have been and what you have been up to.

That’s been a common theme with some new posters joining here over the years and looking to school people who’ve been doing this forever. At its best, this place was a forum for asking advice, sharing stories and helping out. Not patronizing the rest. Excluding of course General Chat which has always been a free for all.

There are all kinds of people. Some who are successful are all about sharing their successes. And depending on personality types may seem to promote themselves to the point of excess. They are proud of what they have done and want to share it. If you take it wrong you need to look inward.

But to a different subject I am ONCE AGAIN gritting my teeth at people who beat the snot out of the OP and a new member. Blaming this stuff of AI and whatever is ridiculous. No AI has done the stuff he pictured or the firearm he rebuilt. Some may not like his presentation but he has don impressive stuff.

In a PM I told him I'd love to have a neighbor with his skills.

The op misses the part of homesteading that is very important and that is being frugal. If you have a lot of disposable money at hand you can buy a lot of solutions to your problems.I notice most of the ops projects are using the correct new materials. I appreciate the ones that find a way to make do or improve the system without stressing your finances.

The OP is legit and has an established SM presence.
Mike in Ohio highlighted the community, which is key.

There are folks who succeed in some area or another and want others to benefit by looking "at this," and then there are those who mainly want you to look "at me".
Not always, but I tend to see a pattern in those who leave discussion groups by first making a thread announcing their departure.

I get the feeling that he left because he was pissed off about the way he was dog-piled on another thread.

This is interesting. When someone begins homesteading do they do it from a position of advantage or because they are about destitute and have no other option? If they succeed they are arrogant and braggarts? If they fail they didn't have the fortitude?

There are as many reasons people homestead as there are homesteads, I would suggest it's a personal and individual journey and experience. I'd also suggest that people have different definitions of "success". But let's not quibble over a definition. Some who succeed are humble and others who succeed are braggarts. Similarly, what is failure? If a person grows older and can no longer maintain their homestead is that failure? If one of a couple is severely injured or killed and the other can't deal with the resulting consequences, is that simply a lack of fortitude? I don't believe there is a single simple answer to your questions.

Ohio Mike has a point. He made a thread criticizing and insulting people, he got piled on [ not surprising ], and he left in a huff. Thats about the size of it. Its too bad because he was a very informative and accomplished homesteader.

It is what it is.

We'll see how long he lasts over there.
I couldn't get interested in his posts because they were too dad gummed picture heavy.
