I am considering building a colonial kitchen fireplace into my house (around the mid-1800's era) and was wondering where I can get some plans on the internet? I haven't been too lucky, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have one in their home? Thanks Chris

I have one. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find any "plans" for them on the net. The Foxfire Book has several drawings and related measurements for old, original fireplaces and chimneys.

You can find pictures of kitchen fireplaces on the Colonial Williamsburg, Monticello and Mount Vernon websites. There's a picture of one at http://www.nj.searchroots.com/Gloucesterco/images/redbank/whitallhouse-kitchen.jpg

If you can find Early American Life magazines sometimes they have drawing. I have a bunch of pictures of the kitchen in Williamsburg. I would suggest you marry your fireplace design to the rumford design so as to make it as efficient as possible.
