I know I have seen this question posted before but I cannot find it. I dispatched 5 fryers yesterday and one of the livers was lighter in color with noticeable pattern to it. So is it safe to eat or should I throw it to the wolves? :stirpot:

It sounds like it could be coccidiosis. The rest of the meat is fine, but toss the liver.

We used to keep a little apple cider vinegar in the water to prevent it. Some say it's a wives' tale, but we never had coccidiosis in the rabbits.

Did you get a picture of it?

I searched for the pictures of livers on my computer...but I guess it was on the crashed computer. Yes, I kept pictures I had found on the net of "bad" organs...what a weirdo I am..lol

So here is a thread where I posted some pictures...maybe it'll help...maybe someone else has so pictures...of what bad livers look like vs. pretty ones...lol,lol...I never thought i'd use the word "pretty" to describe rabbit organs...lol

The spleen I believe is also enlarged on a rabbit with Tularemia...they now caution rabbit hunters to wear gloves when dressing out rabbits because it is zoonotic..I can't imagine my dad out in the field after rabbit hunting wearing rubber gloves..lol,lol. I guess he's just lucky or maybe it wasn't so wide spread then:shrug:
