Every time I move chicks out, a snake comes and eats it!!
So since last summer, I covered this area within the coop with small wiring, and window screening over that. I shoveled in extra dirt to seal up any openings. Now, I'm starting up again, and re-did everything. This entire coop has chicken wire buried down under ground on all sides. So yesterday, I moved a few chicks out to this coop. This morning, one dead! Looks like a snake tried to swallow it, but it's too big. The head and neck were all stretched out, and gummy.
I have mothballs all over too. Not inside the coop... I even set a minow trap with eggs in it...someone here mentioned they used that, and caught snakes. Nothing is helping!!
I now placed the chicks in a wired pen (smaller gauge), and thats covered with screening. I live in Florida, and it's been warm here, so snakes coming out.
So aggravated!! Oh...I didn't find the snake either. Other times, I found the snake with a big bulge in it...after it had eaten my chick. Checking everywhere...sooo disgusting!!
