I'm 51, nearing menopause, and noticing some facial hair I never had before - a bit of a mustache and some hairs on my chin. I guess this is normal. My question is for those of you that have this same problem what do you do about your facial hair? I know I have different options, but just wondered what has worked best for some of you. Thanks for any helpful advice you can give this hairy woman.:help:

Pluck - shave - burn . I use all 3 methods . By burn I mean using Nair . I've been dealing with this issue for some time now . Had a hysterectomy at 30 and with no hormone treatments possible - I have had to deal with it . I don't like waxing though . It works well and IT HURTS ! LOL

Occasionally I get my face waxed. I don't think it hurts that much, and it gets most of the hair all at once, and it lasts for a few months. Between times, I'll pluck the random hairs that pop up. My father's parents were from Sicily, and a lot of the women in that family will get dark facial hair, as well as too much facial hair.

Lately I've been thinking about getting some electrolysis done on the worst of the hair. The trend for my hair seems to be that the hair will only get longer, thicker, and darker on my face. I know that there are home electrolysis kits, but I also know that these things can cause scarring, and I'd rather not scar up my face.

Your lucky!! You made it to your 50's before have to deal with this, I was in my mid 20's. Now nearing the end of my 30's I could grow a very nice goatee (I have wonderful dark thick whiskers :grit:)!!

I try to pluck, but sometimes get feed up and shave. Plucking lasts longer, but shaving is SO much faster. Once shaved they all grow in again at the same rate, so I never seem to get caught up again (my poor chin can only handle so much at one time). I'd love to know more about the electrolysis option.

I pluck mine. I have a few on my chin and a few on my neck.
The best place to pluck is in the car. There is something about daylight that makes them very easy to see.
Don't feel bad.. every woman on earth has a few facial hairs.. and if you are a woman that doesn't.. keep that info to yourself to spare the rest of us.

I pluck too. The good/bad news about plucking is the hairs grow in bristlier (is that a word?) If you see me rubbing my chin thoughtfully it's just me checking for bristles! Now that I'm over 50 they come in silver instead of black. I thought this was a good thing until I noticed how beautifully silver glints in the sunlight! :grit:

One day I said to my husband, you know it's a dirty trick what aging does to women... facial hair like mustaches and chin hairs. He said - well if you're a man you get to deal with bushes growing out of your nose and ears! (He made me feel better about it, but it still doesn't take the problem away!)

Plucking. *sigh*

Electrolysis is a thing of the past, ladies. I had laser hair removal done on my lower legs and arm pits. I still have about 12 hairs on each lower leg that I shave off--after 6 years. My arm pit hair didn't start coming back for a month and when it did only about 25% of it returned. The hair was way softer and grows much slower so I can shave once every 5 days and nobody knows and it never itches. Laser hair removal also takes away the prickly feeling when the hair is ready to be shaved. I highly recommend it.

However, having said that let me say this: There are a lot of scammers out there so do your home work. Make sure you are getting the right kind of light for your skin tone so you do not scar. Also, it takes 8-12 weeks for hair to cycle through it's growth cycle. Doing it more often is simply throwing your money away. HTH!

I've never had body hair. That said, I do have 3 dang sticks that keep growing off the edge of my chin. It's like all the body hair that ever wanted to be has shown up in these 3 sticks. I could probably save the lumber and build something. :grit: It's a part of my morning ritual to pluck and cuss each stick.

I've had them for years too. I use to use Nair until I started breaking out in a rash. Then I tried plucking. Too much work. So I've been shaving. I've only recently started going into menopause so I don't know why all the hair for years now.

Also, at the same time, it has been years since I have had any hair on my legs or armpits. I guess I'm weird that way.

Bleach (creme hair bleach) lightens them up, and then pluck the ones that want to grow sideways or up or straight out....:grit:

For laser...find a place that has a package that promises free treatments if the hair comes back in 1 year after the final treatment. They recomend 6 treatments for full removal.

Waxing gets easier the more you do it and tends to lighten/weaken the hair.

Won't touch Nair again after a reaction that felt like my skin was burning for 3 days.

Shaving can make it more noticable because of the blunt ends of the hair.

Plucking is basically waxing 1 hair at a time.

I've had this problem since I was 14, and now that I'm almost 30 it's gotten really bad. I'm thinking by the time menopause hits I'll be able to join a carnival sideshow and make some extra money.

Laser hair removal is a ripoff IMO. I must have ended up with a scam artist, so many people recommended it but I spent $5000 on it and it didn't do anything to the hair but it sure hurt like hell.

Pluck until my hand cramps up, then shave the rest. :(

I found after a hot shower they are easier to pluck. They are a pain tho. I use a x10 mirror to be able to see them to get a good grip on them. Glad I dont have to many. :lookout:

LOL! I am 28 and I have ONE black hair on my chin. Just one. I have had him for about 5 years now. I pluck him when I see him and then it takes a week or two until he starts to grow and about another 2 weeks until I pluck it.

I have a bit of darker hair on my upper lip. Had that all my life. It's fine hair, just a bit darker than normal peach fuzz. I bleach that hair and you can't even tell.

BUT if it ever gets worse I think I will wax. I wax everything else anyway and I think 3 seconds of pain is worth being hair free for a few weeks. And after a while waxing doesn't hurt that much anymore if you keep up with it. Yup! Even getting dark black hair ripped out of my armpit doesn't really hurt anymore.

OMG, I almost got busted at work cuz I was ROFLMAO! The comment about men having bushes in their ears and nose is hilarious and I got an instant picture of my ex-boss who is 44, good looking, but has a heck of a lot of nose and ear hair bursting out of those openings!

I too suffer from a fair amount of thick peach fuzz, luckily blonde, but I get those freaky long ones on my neck and once and a while DH pulls one off my chest and says "WOW!". Let the plucking commence! I feel bad for my little sister who is only 17 and already has dark mustache hair, must be from her dad's side.
