Anyone have any recommendations? Lord knows where our board games have gotten to... but our favorites were Scrabble, Scattergories and Taboo. Checking the prices on Amazon have me in shock. Guess i'll be haunting thrift stores and watching for sales :)
Anyone have any favorite board games that you play/played with your family? Our youngest is 11 so any game would be okay I guess.

Thanks.

Uno is always a favorite, monopoly is in the beginning stages (7 and 9), RISK is an all time favorite along with chess. A deck of cards can yeild a long time love of war, poker, gg fish, etc.
We have and entine "foot locker" of games that are constantly being pulled out and enjoyed. Great family time>

I love Backgammon but if more than 2 people that won't be a good one.
Yatzee, Rack O & Uno were always some of my favorites when I was younger & still Love Yatzee.
The neices & nephews that come for visits like Trouble, Jenga & Tip It & regular card games like Rummy, War & Go Fish too.

I agree though, games have really went up in price!

Another vote for Apples to Apples. HILARIOUS fun!

Uno is good, especially if you use 2 or 3 decks (depending on how many people are playing). I can't play Risk, as for some reason, I take my world domination far too seriously.

Another good game that I like is "Fact or Crap?" There are cards with trivia on them; some is true, some isn't. It's a lot of fun, but I can see where some folks may be put off by the title.

It may not be manufactured any more, but watch for a game called "Pig Mania." It's a dice game but the dice are little rubber pigs. You score them by how they land/ are standing, lying etc. They have funny names for the positions.

Another game is Pit. It's a card game, used to come with a metal teachers desk bell. You trade cards, which are marked with different types of grain, until you have all the same. There's a bull and bear cards, sort of like trading stocks. It can be a loud game with everyone shouting out how many cards they want to trade.

Another vote for Apples to Apples! It's great. We bought it a few years ago and then bought one of the extension packs.

Sequence, Blokus, Parcheesi, Sorry, and Outburst are all pretty good.

I love Clue because I usually win. :) Once my family was so sick of me winning they made me play without the score sheet. I still won. LOL.

If you get Life or Monopoly, try to get the older versions.

We play a fun game that doesn't cost a thing. Everyone is given 20 small pieces of paper. On ten of them they write "why"....anything On the others they write "because".....fold and place in hats, one for why and one for because. Once everyone is finished the first person pulls a why followed by a because and so on around the table. It ends up getting us laughing so hard it hurts.
It takes a bit of time to write the papers but once the imaginations get going it's a scream.

And I second Apples to Apples tho it's spendy like all the rest but it gets hilarious too, the more the merrier. check second hand stores.
