I have a cast iron wood stove that saves me lots of money on heating costs. The problem I been having is black soot is on all the walls from the vents inside the house. My house smells like burnt wood. Any advice will be much appreciated.

If the black soot is coming from the vents then you have a leak in the heat exchanger. That is the only reason that you can get black soot from the vents.
I am not sure I even have an heat exchanger on the wood stove. I have a tube that comes from the stove to the outside chimney that has a damper on it. Do I need to buy anything specific. My house always smells like burnt wood.

How often do you clean the chimney? Have a professional take a look . If the chimney is installed incorrectly you may be breathing carbon monoxide. Call your local fire house and ask them to send somone out. Then make a donation You may need them someday.

Sounds to me as though things are stopped up and you are very close to a Flue fire.

You need to brush the Flue out and take the Stove Pipe down and clean it out.If you can't do this hire a Chimney Sweep. What ever is going on its dangerous.

If you're getting black soot on the walls, your chimney isn't drawing correctly and smoke is getting into your home. Does the chimney have a clean-out door at the base? If so, open it and use a small mirror to check the chimney. Also check the stove pipe and damper between the stove and the chimney. If you haven't had the chimney cleaned in a while, call in a chimney sweep.

I appreciate the advice you all have given me so far. I have had my duct and chimney cleaned today. I get confused on how all the smoke will go through the chimney and not the ducts once lit. This is an older stove. Smelling like burnt wood doesn't help picking up women.
