Hmmm, let's see...today, we are going to go through a box of ornaments the hubby found and finish setting up our little 3 ft tree. Have some classic Christmas music playing on the CD player, hot chocolate abound and a few pine scented candles burning.

Hopefully, we are headed to Philly soon to see the Wanamaker's show and Colonial Christmas :sing:

Look in the archives, we had that discussion last year. When we had NO money for Christmas, we got out all the paid for decorations. We have plenty of stuff from years past and we enjoyed all of it. My DD says she is happier when the house is festive, whether the tree has presents or not. (I did manage some things for her).

We put up decorations, play holiday music and enjoy hot apple cider and hot cocoa. Many years ago we bought a bunch of pine-scented candles when the fragrance was being discontinued, and burning one of those is an almost instant pick-me-up.

I forgot to add (after seeing the holiday baking thread); making cookies and candies while listening to Christmas music and sipping hot apple cider helps too :)

Today, I started making a kissing ball to hang in my new living room. My suggestion? Choose a new tradition and get started on it! Since we have lost all our Christmas decorations to theft, we are making nearly everything that hangs on our tree this year. Popcorn strings, fabric bows, dough ornaments, gingerbread cookies, etc.

Our new tradition is to hand make at least one full set of 6 ornaments each year. You'll be amazed at the interesting things you can find to make!

On another thread WIHH showed a picture of some little trees she made from yo-yo's. I thought they were so cute, I made one. It turned out so cute I decided to make a couple more. They're not made yet, but I have the fabric cut out and ready. I also have some holly berry branches in vases. I'm getting there a little at a time.

And the holiday movies are a good thing to watch since it's so cold and windy out today. I think I'll go and get some hot chocolate.

I taught a wreath making class last weekend. We start from tipping in our woods to decorating the finished wreaths. They had a blast. It puts me in the holiday spirit every year.

I write out Christmas too. I don't think anyone means to be disrespectful by writing xmas but I feel funny about it. I don't say x mas so writing it doesn't make sense for me.

I have a big magnolia tree in the backyard and would love to make a wreath for the front door. When I tried to do this a couple of years ago, the magnolia leaves kept falling out. I had stuck them to the styrofoam wreath form with a metal thing with a pointed end. It seemed all nice and secure, then I put it on the front door. Anyone know what I did wrong?

Wow, I am pretty upset that we have a brand new poster here asking a perfectly nice question and someone comes on here with such a rude, unkind response. If you want to discuss whether to use X-mas in place of Christmas, start your own thread, don't ruin someone elses.

When someone is new we try to make them feel welcome and accomodate them, not trash their thread.

Many churches celebrate Advent on the four Sundays before Christmas. It is a wonderful tradition of preparing your heart while waiting for the coming of Christ into the world.
Oh, that's right! I remember growing up having an Advent wreath--was it 3 purple and 1 pink candle? What about an advent calender too? You can make your own (hurry up since today is December 1st!). I think the baking, the smells and the family activities (tree trimming, caroling, reading Christmas stories, etc.) are some of the best bets for getting in the Christmas spirit!
