The float test is great. The angle of float is important. Actually, the egg shouldn't float at all. It should be touching the bottom of the water-filled container. If it lays on it's side it's good. If it bobs at an angle, it's still okay to cook with. If it bobs straight up, or actually floats, CAREFULLY remove it from your home, it's gone bad.
