Workshop Helps Farmers Do the Math to Start a Goat Dairy

Morrisville—Farmers and others who are interested in learning about the
costs of starting a goat dairy are invited to a workshop on Saturday,
    January 6, 2007.

“Doing the Math: Financials for Starting a Goat Dairy” will be held at
the University of Vermont (UVM) Extension office in Morrisville, Vermont
    from 12:45 to 4:45 p.m.

At the workshop, farmers and consultants will share their budgets and
financial records to help participants plan their dairy goat businesses.
Anyone wishing to learn more about the financials of starting a goat
dairy--whether the goal is to stay small and make farmstead cheese or
soap, or milk a larger herd and ship fluid milk--is invited.

The fee for the workshop is $10 per person and includes refreshments and
materials. Please make your check or money order payable to “UVM” and
send it to the UVM Center for Sustainable Agriculture, 63 Carrigan
    Drive, Burlington, VT 05405.

For a brochure or more information, please visit the website at
    www.uvm.edu/sustainableagriculture/smallrumi.html or call 802-656-5459
    or 802-656-0915.

Speakers include Laini Fondiller of Lazy Lady Farm in Westfield; Keith
Kirchner who operates Rivendell Meadows Farm in East Albany; Jordan Le
Roux, a dairy goat specialist for Vermont Butter and Cheese; and Carol
Delaney, Small Ruminant Dairy Specialist with the UVM Center for
    Sustainable Agriculture.

The workshop is sponsored by the Small Ruminant Dairy Project at the
University of Vermont Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Women’s
    Agricultural Network.

I would love to meet you, I am sure we will connect at the workshop.

We are coming from 2 opposite directions if you are coming from NY.

What part of NY are you in?

I am near Watertown. Are you planning on wearing anything special.. a sweatshirt with your farm name or something ?? I keep saying I am going to get some made up.

Well I am 5'1 with shoulder length brown hair average build. I drive a blue 04 ford extended cab with an 8 foot bed 4x4 with Ny plates :)

Hopefully they will have name tags.

I'm 5'3" with a little less than shoulder length dark blond hair (getting darker every year!). I wear glasses and will be driving either a red windstar van or a little green Ford escort. Probably the van. I will be with a very heavy woman with a dark brown ponytail and glasses. I don't know if dh is going to be able to come or not. My friend is bringing the sheep farmer across the road from her too.

Edited to add: I have no clue what I will be wearing, I am not a snappy dresser and usually grab whatever is cleanest. I won't be wearing my Sunday-morning-go-to-meeting clothes, for sure! (I need them for Sunday!)
