Today I visited a lady I met at work and got a bunch of plants from her garden. They also sold me a bunch of shelled pecans- would have given me unshelled but I am too busy to shell them- now I have much better fresher nuts for the same price I pay for walnuts at the commissary.
Then she said "my friend said you had to come by their place too" and we drove off to, as they say in England, a true Plantsman's garden. (They sold daylilies prior to retirement.) It was like visiting Kew botanical gardens in 2 acres. They had a rubber tree!!! Bananas! Lovely sweet smelling roses and tea olives. Even an olive tree- the dried pit looked like an olive pit but I still can't believe an actual olive can grow in Alabama! I've got two seeds to find out if I can grow it here....
Brought home bananas, two tall plants for a problem area I have which needs height, lots of seed for coreopsis Confederate rose and Dutchman's pipe vine, ginger lilies, forsythia!! agapanthus (lily of the Nile), pecan seedlings... also brought home a hand of the bananas which taste great but are 95% seed- if I can get bananas will have to develop some method of consumption which is more than suck on the seeds then spit them out- can't be very nourishing.
Halfway done planting- tomorrow will be a busy day.
