Silly question maybe, but will my three nubian bucklings keep their spots? The mother is a spotted nubian but she is very lightly spotted. I believe the father is spotted also. The kids are very spotted. One is spotted so heavily he looks rather like a holstein. It is polka dot village in my barn and I rather like it.

Yes, your kids will keep their spots. I don't know if they might fade a little as they get older, but they won't disappear entirely.

Wow!!! That is a big difference! I think I will take a few pics of the boys and try to post them. You will not believe the spots. Now that they are really up and about the pics should come out better. I may be able to post one or two from the day they were born.

black and white markings dont seam to fade as bad as red and brown does, the sun really does a number on red color tones
but they may get dirty and you would have to wash them to see some of the spots better.

Ark, I think you'd be surprised what you'd find if you were to shave your kid. Many times what appear to be brownish spots on some of these spotted nubians are in fact a silvery brown or white when clipped. The way to tell for sure is to either clip them or to brush the hair backward with your hand so that you can see what color the underside of the hair is (down near the skin).

I used to have photos of a buckling that was here that was black with VERY dark brown spots (could only see them in bright light) but when he was clipped the spots were bright white. When I'm home I'll see if I can find those photos for you.

    Here you go.....

Before (you can barely see his dark brown spots because they're so dark):

After (unfortunately, this side wasn't as flashy as the other side, but this is the only side I have a photo of):

This is my Jason. He's just 15 days shy of a year now. Wow, how time flys. I'll try and get a pic of him now if I remember one day.
