will magnolias grow from seed?

    I was given a handful of the red seeds from a neighbors magnolia tree. will they sprout? what should I do to make them more likely to grow? I know nothing about magnolias so any help appreciated

    Apparently cuttings are the preferred method of propagating magnolias but they can also be started from seed. Here's info from the Magnolia Society: www.magnoliasociety.org/care.html

    They come up in our yard (unplanned). Magnolias are pain-in-the-neck trees. We have a couple of huge ones that I'd love to get rid of.
    If you can get one to grow, plant it outside of your landscaped area.
