I know facial recognition is everywhere, but why is it on shopping sites? And, Amazon and other web sites are letting police use them? How are people going to let artificial intelligence identify people and keep tabs on them without their knowledge?
For years, before it even leaked out that we could all possibly be spied on by the government through cameras on our phones, in our televisions and that we are being tracked by our cell phones, I always had weird feelings about flat screen televisions and phone camera lenses, now I don’t feel so crazy for being a little paranoid about it.

Does anyone else feel like ditching the flat screens, cell phones, and computers and just living without much electricity and enjoying more true freedom like I’m starting to lean towards...? Am I crazy for feeling this way? Is this modern era of artificial intelligence and secret surveillance we live in normal? Because it doesn’t feel normal, nor does it feel free. Even walking into a supermarket we’re all being watched, the machine taking the money is watching and recording us. I just don’t feel okay with this, and it doesn’t feel normal to me.

I know I will slowly ditch the technology, slowly stop relying on store products and start freeing myself through nature. Making all of my food, not relying on electricity, using hand pump water systems, making my own clothing and learning the skills I need to get out of this crazy world we live in, where disease spreads like wildfire, mental illness is seen as something to be accepted rather than cured, people murder and loot, people cannot take care of themselves if society fails, corporations pump poison into the air, soil and water, species of animal are hunted until extinction, all other life forms suffer more because of us, I’m finished with being apart of the disease.

If Earth is looked at as an organism, as a living thing. Where would we stand?

Would Earth feel we are a disease, spreading and wreaking havoc? Digging into its skin, pulling out the goodness and leaving grime and death behind? How different are we from any pathogen that attacks us? We are all one, and supporting anyone or any business that helps pollute the world helps and funds them to continue to be the disease they are.

Sometimes I feel we are the pathogen, killing off the cells the body needs to survive, polluting the fragile ecosystem of beneficial bacteria and cell function, killing it off slowly until the body cannot take more, until disease claims it. We aren’t there yet, but the more we push, the more we grow, the more we work against nature, the more we are that pathogen, the more we push for decay.

Seeing it this way I am working to not become something that works against nature, I want to do what I can to work with it. To not be the disease. I know I went way off topic, but that’s just what all of this modern world and everything it consists of brings me back to. That we are the worlds disease, and if we don’t change, we kill the world, life will mostly perish, we will perish, our kin will suffer until they cannot suffer more. This society is highly unbalanced, and if we can’t change, I think we all know it will be our demise.

I’m sorry for the rant, maybe I’m just too much of a hermit and need to let some steam out. Rants of a crazy person.

No you are not crazy for feeling that way.
It is an addiction that society can no longer live without.
It doesn't make life so much easier. One only has to see the stress and frustration that people experience trying to troubleshoot, repair, hack and figure out how something worked, and why it isn't working right then and there to see it wouldn't kill us to drop them in the recycle bin.

reading about it and visiting the software web site, it’s definitely something they could use on their .com retail site for confirming identity when people are shopping online.

I don't believe that. I have no cameras on my tv's or computer. I use Amazon a lot. Most TV's do not have cameras in them.

I think the point is that the cameras are hidden in the new televisions— if they’re not taken apart I’m not sure anyone could say anything about that?

Your computer must be a very old model?

No there are not cameras hidden in TV's and my computers are very up to date. I do have Amazon on my phone that has a camera but the camera access is not available to Amazon and I very seldom use that app anyways.

My computer and TV were purchased in November 2019, neither has a camera.

My tablet has a camera. :) I, however, hold it in a way that the camera is almost always covered.

I think the fear is that the software can turn the microphones/cameras on and off (and do other things you may not want done) without any input from the user.

https://www.zdnet.com/article/fbi-warns-about-snoopy-smart-tvs-spying-on-you/

"Today, the FBI is warning that "TV manufacturers and app developers may be listening and watching you." It added, "[A] television can also be a gateway for hackers to come into your home. A bad cyber actor may not be able to access your locked-down computer directly, but it is possible that your unsecured TV can give him or her an easy way in the backdoor through your router."

I just quickly grabbed that article, but there are plenty of others out there. You smartphone is even less secure, especially if you use a lot of different apps and don't constantly keep track of security settings.

It's not really in the tinfoil hat realm anymore.

I agree with some of that Mish but if you properly secure your router, have proper security software on your devices and don't visit porn sites ( notorious for getting ahold of your cameras) you are mostly safe.

Now if you don't know how to do that and don't keep up on it, you might have problems. I still don't believe that TV's have hidden cameras.

Only if people allow them.
If I order from them I use a computer with no camera.
