I have several white pines on our property and they seem to be getting sick. The first get really pale looking then die. Any ideas why?

    Hi there,

Need more info than that to be of any help at all. Where are you? Are you in a rural or city setting? How much rain have you been having? Any development near you? How old are the pines? Are they on a powerline easment? Notice a white crusty stuff along the bottom of the limbs? ARe you sure they are white pine? Anything you can add may be of help to us all.

Also, would like to know when were they planted? If you look closely at the small branches, do you see any orange coloration? Is the top of the tree dying? Is the yellowing on the inside of the branches? Have you removed the mulch from under the tree? One other question is what is growing nearby? Any wild strawberries, or clover?

We live in a rural setting. There is no mulch under the trees except for dropped pine needles. Last year we had less than average rainfall. These trees are all planted together with nothing around them except open lawn. Oh, there is an electrical/cable line running nearby but it's not a high voltage one just a regular service line.

Try an image search of "pine wilt" and "white pine root decline" and see if any of it looks like the trees you're talking about.

No, no currents or gooseberries nearby. Not sure how old the trees are they were on the property when we bought it. Have recently treated the tree with Bayer brand insecticide. But haven't seen any improvement yet.
