where to get lye

    could someone tell me where i might get some lye i am wanting to try my hand at making some goat milk soap?

    I found some lye at my local hardware store... make sure it says 100% lye or sodium hydroxide. I think you can get some at Lowes too.

    you can order it online but i have found it at the local store (king soopers here)

    OK, it is brand name "Roebic" and says "Crystal Drain Opener" on the front. The tall, cylinder type canister is yellow, red and gray on a white bottle. The amount is 2 lbs. It was around $7.00 at Lowe's. Make sure you don't get anything that doesn't follow this description to a "T." It says on the back "100% sodium hydroxide." Other drain openers have other chemicals in them. You can't go wrong with this one. Good luck, have fun and be cautious. It heats up to about 200 degrees!!

    thanks to all of you that posted on the lye. i hadn't check the stores cause i was told it was pulled out of stores because of all the dope heads we have in the US.
    going to lowe's tomorrow.
