I am new to homesteading and wish to buy groceries on line. I live in Texas and figure that freight will be expensive if I must buy them too far away. I am fixing up my homestead and don't want to go to town too often. Thanks for any help.

I know there are plenty of food sites, but I do not use any.

However, I reply to your post because I do purchase from drugstore.com. They carry pretty much everything you can get at a large chain "drug store", and then some. The prices are fair, they have $ incentives, and shipping is free over $49.

    Good luck,
    Michelle

If you shop wisely, and have a freezer, you don't need to go to the supermarket very often. For example, milk and bread can be frozen for several weeks. If you have your own chickens, eggs aren't a problem. For other than fresh use, I've heard of people freezing them also, but they can keep for up to two months or so just in the cartons in the refrigerator.

Once a month can be plenty often, even longer between trips once you get the knack of buying in bulk.

I have friends that were paying $2 plus fedex shipping (required) for Parmalat shelf-stable milk. I clued them in to a local supplier (WalMart) where it is $1.50 with tax included. You just need to know where to shop and plan ahead.

You also might consider the Schwan's company that deliver groceries to your door every week or two weeks (you arrange it with them). Very popular here and many use it simply to buy ice cream products. Yes, alot of stuff is processed foods, but I don't know your tastes. Check them out and decide for yourself.
