The sweet potatoes have started to sprout that I have for 09 seed and I am in zone 5-5A....North east Ohio anyway. I have them wrapped in newspapers and it a bag in a closest and they are still sprouting. It seems to me that I have heard of people starting thier slips pretty early but I don't think it was nearly this early. What can I do to slow down these sprouts, should I go ahead and put in some water, or count on getting new potatoes for spring? What date would you all suggest I should start these slips since this is my first year for sweet potatoes I have no clue. Thanks for your suggestions.

I'd go ahead and put them in water. As the sprouts lengthen, I like to cut them into slips and start rooting them in a glass of damp sand.
