Hello everyone. This is my first year raising turkeys and I was wondering when I should butcher Turk. Should I do it a few days before or the morning of? Thanks for the input.
If you are asking about butchering a turkey you plan to have for Thanksgiving? Most people butcher about 2 days before the event to allow the meat to "rest".
Depends.. how fat is it? I do birds the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. Now, if I had 20+lb bird averages right now.. I'd probably off them and freezer for a couple weeks. Nobody wants a huge bird that wont fit in the oven.
I'd have to add a day to soak in the brine, and half-a-day to sit after brining. My son is elk hunting the week of Thanksgiving, so we'll butcher the weekend before.
