We live in zone 6, WV. When is it to late to plant potatoes?
Don't know if it gets too hot there in the middle of summer, but we grow our potatos between Memorial day and Labor day here in Alaska.
For late potatoes here you can plant them until about the 10th of June. I'm in zone 5. To store them over winter, it is better if the are ready to dig in the fall. I would think mulching with straw would help them along during the hot dry summer weather. The straw would keep the ground cooler, and keep the moisture from evaporating.
I didn't plant mine last year until July and still had a good crop.
