What's the best deal on prepaid phone cards for long distance? I'm thinking about completely dropping long distance from my Embarq account. Last month I used about $1.50 in long disance charges, and Embarq charged an additional $6.00 just to HAVE the long distance available. A friend told me that nowadays, you can get a prepaid card with no expiration date. Anyone know anything about those?

I used to use one of the AT&T prepaid cards from Sam's Club. Then a law changed somewhere and they started charging me 3 additional minutes of time for every 1 minute of talk time for instate calls. (Is it me, or was that a 400% markup?) So anyway, I am currently looking for a prepaid card company. Thanks for the tip, I will check out onesuite.

The best cellular service is the one with the best coverage in your area. I have Alltel and they have 3 prepaid plans (at least when I got mine). I use it very little so I use their pay per call plan. No LD charges, minutes don't expire, you would have to intentionally hunt for an area that would have roaming charges. The other two plans have some bells and whistles like free nights and weekends and unlimited text messaging or something like that, but I believe there is a monthly fee attached to those. I pay 15 cents per minute, period. But I only use it probably 40- 60 minutes per month (I have no life LOL), and I'd have to spend a bit of time to figure out how to send a text message...

I have three Sam's phone cards...so I can keep the expenses straight for personal, my writing expenses and my farm expenses. The poster was right about them raising the in state call fees. I still use them for out of state calls, but use my local company for in state calls which are 7 cents a minute. The Sam's card is a little over 4 cents for out of state. But I'll certainly check out onesuite...thanks.

I use callingcards.com

I've used them for years. You can search and see what card will best suit your needs. I use the TALKUSA card. I call the UK 2 or 3 times per week and it's something like 3 cents per minute. I also use the card for toll and long distance calls within the USA.

I usually buy a $50 card and it lasts me 2 or 3 months. I call my mum in the UK a lot - 2 or 3 hours per week.

you might consider a net10 phone- it is 10 cents a minute, no matter what, when or how. no roaming charges, and unused minutes rollover. the phones come in various prices. i have had excellent service with mine and it is very mountainous here. i get service in places i've never expect it.

We've got a separate cell phone account with Alltel, and we're pretty satisfied with that. In a perfect world, DH would bring his cell phone in the house every night instead of leaving it in the truck, and in the unlikely event that he needed to make a long distance call, he could do so for free. However, it's not a perfect world, and we need SOME sort of long distance on the land line. The "onsuite" looks pretty good...
