I am new to soapmaking, but have successfully made soap before. Today I un-molded a batch and it was powdery and just crumbled. Any idea what I did wrong?

well, neither is telling someone to let failed soap, weeping with lye solution, to "let it go".

A tongue test for lye, if the soap is lye heavy, will only zap you.

Shoot, you can find Sodium Hydroxide (lye) in every day items you put in your mouth .... like toothpaste.

powdered and crumbly sounds like too much lye to me.

Please post your recipe. Did you weigh your ingredients or volume measure them?? How large was your soap batch??

I always always always run my recipe through a calculator ( I like MMS calc) I get really ----ed when I waste my precious oils ...if your soap is not perfect, you can always rebatch which can be fun and also ensures mildness of your batch.

I'd get ----ed also. Never have a problem now. but in the beginning days, I was playing with all kinda oils and scents but still never had a separation. Had some that I had to pour so fast it almost set in the pot but that's about it. That was monster soap. but it still soaped. lol
