Remember that 0 hours is midnight. After that 0100 thru 1159 are AM. 1200 is noon. After that, subtract 12 and that's the time PM.

1730 would be 17 - 12 = 5 so 5:30 PM

Or just do it the dumbo way I do it.... when you get to 12 noon, just keep counting, 1 o'clock is 13 hundred, 2 o'clock is 14 hundred, 3 o'clock is 15 hundred, 4 o'clock is 16 hundred, 5 o'clock is 17 hundred, and etc.

you already know 1/2 of the military time.....1am to noon......after 12:59PM comes 1300 (which is really just 1pm) and then 1400 (2pm)

BamaBubba has it right....just decrease the first number by 1 and the 2nd # by 2.... so that your
...2332
..-12
=11:32

if it was 1500 then the first digit reduced by one would become nothing...and the 2nd digit decreased by 2 would be 3....so that would be 3PM

Well it all depends on whether you're talking about military time within your time zone or coordinated universal time (also known as UTC or Zulu time).

You see 23:32 UTC happens at the same exact moment whether you're in Arkansas or Iraq. It's the time scheme that the military uses to coordinate activities across continents.

So, if your son in Iraq says that he is going to be calling you at 23:32 UTC/Zulu, you will recieve the call at 6:32 PM CDT tonight.

Cabin's right on... 11:32 what? Right now it's around 16:35 Sierra which is 22:35 Zulu (4:35pm Central time)

Well there always has to be one fly in the ointment so I'll disagree with most of the posters.

I have NEVER BEFORE seen military time written with a decimal.

However since that is how it is given it would be approximately 11:19 or perhaps closer to 11:20 p.m.

The 32/100ths would be approximately ⅓ of an hour which would be 20 mintues.

Had the question been 23:32 then it would be 11:32 p.m just after the half hour.

All you have to do is subtract 12 from the figure in front of the colon. (obvously, you don't have to do this if the figure is less than 13!)

23:32
- 12.00
--------------
11:32

Viola! It works every time.

Actually, many hospitals use a clock that has normal "hours" on a 24-hour clock and then break the hour into 100 parts (instead of 60). This makes it easier to calculate hourly pay AND do drug dose calculations over time.
