What predators do pigs have? I can imagine coyotes when they are young but how about when they are older? What about hawks?

    We have coyotes around here.

Would i need to lock pigs up at night?

NO. NOT UNLESS YOU HAVE LARGE BLACK BEARS THAT CAN GET TO PIGS. A large Black Bear can take a pig, if they should cross paths.
Piglets would be protected from coyotes by their mother. Large pigs would not be taken by coyotes unless they were weakened by illness and wandered off. Hogs are darn Tuff critters and very few succumb to predation.

    Whew! What a relief!

I am so tired of my chickens always vanishing. All the more reason to take up hog farming :)

    Thanks for asking this question!

Now wouldn't that be a site, a hawk and a piglet...

Perhaps that's where the phrase "when pigs fly" comes from!

Buzzards are a predator for pasture farrowed pigs. The buzzards will peck the eyes from the newborn and then eventually peck the pig(s) to death.

We had it put on our license plate frame right next to a smiling pig sticker we got on Ebay. Plus a Bumper sticker that says manuer happens. Every family minivan should have these things. lol.

Amen, Susie M-The only predator for my 4 to this point has been 2 dogs that have the electric fence mastered and chase the pigs though the woods.

Maybe a mommy pig, with babies, could teach those pups a lesson?

I have a neighbor 4 houses down that has a pig farm. My husband say they have about 300 pigs. One of them has to have piglets right? I am just waiting until my pen is finished. I moved my fencing and combined it so they have access to my pond and more trees for shade. My husband has to tell me if he is going to get the electrical tape/ribbon or if i am going to need to bury it. So it might be about a week before I get my piggies. I need to make sure my pen is complete first. I would hate to lose any pigs!

Ohthat is just wonderful! Please share photos when you get them!

Where are you in W. Michigan? Would you perhaps mind a visit sometime over the summer? We often drive through on our way to visit cousins who live outside of Frankenmuth, near Saginaw! :)

We are way on the otherside of the palm :p

I took pictures today of my new baby ducklings. Mama hatched out 8 little ones yesterday and I will show those soon as I develope htem. I will probably get the pigs on the same camera and develope them at the same time. I am excited.
