I am interested in subscribing to a couple of magazines about farming/homesteading and the like. What would you all recommend and why?

Wall Street Journal. Living like poor folks and farming takes some bucks.

Acres, USA is decent as long as you're not prone to believing every single conspiracy theory to come down the line. Good real farm info.

I don't get any farming mags now, partly because I live in town:

    Horticulture
    Artist's magazine
    The Nation
    Smithsonian

I used to recieve United Caprine News (UCN) which was worthwhile.

    Lets see, I get
    Countryside
    Mother Earth News
    Backwoods Home
    Wilderness Way
    Organic Gardener
    Hobby Farms
    The Backwoodsman
    APBT Gazette
    Nat'l Geographic
    Nat'l Geographic Kids
    Progressive Farmer
The Informer (a free Indiana Homeschool Mag)
    Young Rider

3 of these are my daughters, and one is a dog breed publication.
If I wasn't fortunate enough to be able to support my magazine addiction, I would choose Countryside, and Wilderness Way.

Ive never heard of Small Farm Today. Does someone have contact info for them? Id like to check it out.

I had a very long list and had to narrow it down! So I got two years of:

    Countryside
    Backwoods Home
    The herb Quarterly
    Mother Earth News
    The Progressive Farmer
    Hobby Farmer
    Organic Gardening
Country Gardens (well it was a trial offer!)

And then there is Chess Life and Review that I get as a life member for free now.

I kept Countryside and The Herb Quarterly. But I may add others once I get done reading all of the back issues! I also got the entire CD of Mother Earth news and past issues of Backwoods Home, but begin to wonder about Backwoods Home - getting too political for my taste.

Two that I am letting the subscription lapse on because they are AWFUL are
    Progressive Farmer and
    Natural Home and Garden

I would like to subscribe to Countryside, but magazine reading time is so limited, sometimes I have two or three months of magazines that I have not yet gotten to.

I just go to the local library and check out their copies of countryside, etc. I have better use for my $$ than subscriptions and I can still get the info I want and need.

My "local" library is 30 miles away. I have gone there, but I enjoy subscribing too. However, that is a good idea and I will probably do that as well.
