Can someone tell me more about Tularemia?

I have heard this on several boards but no one has said exactly what it is and how to avoid it, or how it is spread.

    thanks

Read all about it at this web site for the Merck Veterinary Manual at:

    http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp

Just type in TULAREMIA in the search field and read to your hearts content.

Tularemia is a threat to domestic rabbits only if they have contact with wild rabbits and/or the handler has handled a diseased animal, although it can also be spread by ticks and deer flies. The Cottontail rabbit is a natural host for this disease. Tularemia is a classic zoonosis, capable of being transmitted by aerosol, direct contact, ingestion, or arthropods.
