Hi,

Painting fence and using asphalt based black paint which is by nature, very gooey and tarry. So my hired help used all the "thin" paint that was on top and left the gooey, tarry stuff instead of stirring it all up like he should have..sigh..

What can I use to thin this paint? Am painting my board fence and need to thin the paint out so it will spread somewhat easier!

thanks

You can use diesel or fuel oil. When I worked for a fertilizer company, we used regular roofing tar and cut it with fuel oil. That was applied to any ferrous pipes throughout the factory.

Thanks, will try mineral spirits and if that doesn't work, then it's diesel fuel. The paint stinks to high Heaven anyway, so a little more stink won't kill me.

I will be SOOO glad when this job is finished.
