How much do people sell pigs for? If you consider a weight of 250 on the hoof. About how much per pound for a half hog or whole hog?

For 250 lbs. live hog is $500.

$2 a lb.

If you buy at auction you may be able to get one half that price.

$3.50/lb based on hanging weight which comes to $630 for a typical hog.
That's delivered to the butcher.
Processing is additional:
$55 USDA Slaughter scald and scrape
$150 Cut & Vacuum Pack
$2.50/lb sausage (most linked) and smoking
$10 Delivery on our weekly route

Mostly we sell to stores and restaurants, some also to individuals each week.

I been delivering em to the butcher for a buck a pound on the hoof. I figure I have on average $200 in a 300lb hog so I am able to make $100 a pig. I usually keep one pig and reinvest the remainder into porcine infrastructure.

This year was my first year selling a pig and it was totally last minute, I ended up charging $2.50 a pound hanging weight plus processing fees.

I sold 1/2 hog for $4/pound hanging weight; buyer pays cut/wrap. Net year I will charge $5/ pound.
