someone mentioned potato squash in another thread (which I can't find now LOL) can someone tell me what they are. what do they look like and are they a winter or summer type squash
It was me. Cushaw is the real name. The elderly gentleman that gave me our seeds called them potato squash (as in it tastes like sweet potato). I plant them because they have a harder vine and are less tasty to the squash vine borer.
My family has always grown them in KY mine did great last year in AR. Some lasted till thanksgivng. The neck is the part you mainly use and they make the best Pumpkin pies better than pumpkin my grandma always said and I agree.
thanks, I've had cushaw, just never heard them called that. I've used my pumpkin butter recipe to make cushaw butter and it is yummy
