I just did a trade for two wethers since my boers all gave me does this year. The lady said she has been feeding mostly alfalfa as its cheaper than alf/grass right now. She suggested feeding the wethers oat hay the two weeks prior to butcher as she says alfalfa gives the meat an off taste. Any thoughts/opines out there?

I grow out all my wethers on alfalfa pellets, grass hay and browse with no grain or any other feed whatsoever. if there is an "off taste" to the meat i would not know it. I would like to hear from others on this myself. We like our meat as it is but are open to suggestion. Our wethers grow up fat, shiney and meaty.

My wethers get whatever their mothers are getting. Usually browse/hay/alfalfa pellets and a bit of grain if their lucky. The meat is delicious.
