After lots of research and work we finally have our land for retirement!!!! 40 square acres in Sharp County Arkansas!!! We had looked all around the Arkansas Ozark Mountain area and finally checked out the land that we put a bid in on. We made an offer on Wed, the seller signed on Thursday, and we went back out to the land and walked it for over 5 hours and took over 150 pictures!! We settle on it through the mail and fax in about a month.

The hardest part was having to leave it to go home (Maryland/PA line). But we'll be heading out in the fall to put up a one room cedar cabin and outhouse for future visits. Then after 10 years we can retire and build our house!!!!

Congrats, we know just how you feel! The big problem you will face is that from now on, every time the rat race gets you down, you'll be telling yourself "I could just chuck it all in and move to my place in the country."

    That's a GOOD thing. :)

Whoo Hoo! Congratulations! Some days it will seem like those next ten years will go on forever. But, before you know it, you'll be out there in Arkansas, living on your own place!

Thanks everybody!!! We still have huge grins on our faces :) We'll try to post some pictures soon. And thanks Siryet for the link for Sharp county, it had a lot of information on it. And it is so tempting to chuck it all and move there right now LOL!!! Good to know we could if we had to.

WONDERFUL news! We closed on our place in WV via mail and fax, too. We were living in GA at the time. I concur, ten years is gonna make you nuts. We could scarcely survive one year, the place in the country was calling so loudly to us.

Just wait until you start looking at each other and saying "We could pay off the country place/build a house/etc so much more quickly if we weren't stuck here paying on this place for the next ten years..."

I think we should start making bets on how long it will be before greenacres moves :)

Hey Turtlehead, congradulations to you!!! I know we will even better once the closing happens on ours too!! :)

And you are so right it will be hard waiting 10 years but we'll have to stick it out somehow. Good news is that we'll have a place to go to now for our sanity each year for vacation!!

I was trying to remember where I saw the instructions for putting pictures on here but can't track it down. Can someone pass that onto me? Thanks.

albionjessica: We plan to put up a small cabin with an outhouse behind it sometime this fall so we can vacation there between now and when I retire (10 years...big sigh). But when it gets close to time for us to retire and move we'll be putting a basement on the hillside above the pond, then have a modular home put on it. Our septic will have to off to the side so it doesn't run down into the pond...want our fish to be healthy :) When we are there finally we'll build a barn for our llamas and horses as well as clear out some pasture for them.

Lots of people here at work think I'm crazy to be doing that work when we're retired but Deb and I enjoy that kind of stuff and it will keep us active in our golden years :)
