We adopted three very sick kittens. They have been in a cage w/ the momma since birth. One is terribly scrawny...the other look pretty healthy, but have HORRIBLE colds. they also have tape words. We are going to have the vet out ASAP...but I was wondering if we can do anything in the meantime?

Get some lysine in them if you can; just crush up a tablet in some human baby food, they should tear right into it. Bring them into the bathroom when anyone is showering, the steam will help give them a few minutes of relief.

Try to keep the goo cleaned off their noses and faces too, wet cottonballs work pretty well... and make sure they're eating, may have to use somehing with a strong smell if they're really stuffed up; if they can't smell it, they won't eat it, and sick little kittens really need to eat.

For the really ill one, make sure it stays hydrated; you can offer pedialyte instead of water, there's a recipe somewhere for homemade pedialyte, too. Hold it often, the sound of another heartbeat really seems to help kittens tht are really badly off.

Poor little things, hope they get better soon!
