Just bought a new to me Ram 2500 and want to install a heavy duty brush guard on the front to prevent damage from hitting a deer or other critter. Have had four different incidents in the last few years and want to protect my truck. Was thinking of the Ranch Hand brand. I do not want the kind with the integrated front bumper. I want the bolt on that bolts to the frame and gives good protection.

From what I have seen the Ranch Hand brand is VERY GOOD. I wish I could have afforded one for my Tacoma. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Good luck with your "project". Dsmythe

Brush guards is what they are called and way I see it is all they protect the truck from.

I have ther same thing on my 2004 3500 Dodge and bought it mostly for looks and to protect the grill when I am up at my deer camp and decide to drive in the woods to pick up a deer.

If you really stop and look at that type it is fastened to the frame with two bolts each side, 4 all together. Mine did come with grade 8 bolts they were grade 5. a deer hits the top bar and since it sticks up with no suport so it bends and possiable brakes those bolts.

Still get damage to the front of your truck in the end.

I have one on each of my trucks. The name is Fear No Dear 888-383-2658, give them a call. They are not just a brush guard, bolt to the frame with four bolts. I hit and killed a thousand pound steer, with zero damage to my truck. They are not cheap, nothing good ever is. Where I live there are more Elk than deer. If you drive early in the morning or at night, it is simply a matter of when you will hit one. I wouldn't drive without one.

I've bought two Ranchhands over the years...both used...both have served me well. Just an FYI, a local machine shop may be able to make you one to your liking for a lot less change. Just depends on where you live and costs there.

We have Ranch Hand on ours but haven't put it to the test yet and hope it stays that way. Dh hit a hog, but he was driving his company car at the time. We almost hit a hog Saturday night, also in the company car. I'm beginning to think we need a guard on the cars.

My wife scared me the other day, 3:30 in afternoon. She is driving her Jeep 60MPH, I see a Deer coming for the highway. I say watch that Deer. She isn't even slowing down. I holler WATCH THAT DEER! She finally applies her brakes. Then I kid you not she says I didn't need to holler at her and she didn't see the Deer.

I have the full Ranch Hand Bumper/Grill Guard on my pickup. I have hit three deer, two at one time, and the most I've had to do is wash the pickup. Seth

The Charleston Gazette had guards made for their newspaper delivery vehicles out of plate and square tubing. Since then the trucks have hit deer when the truck was doing at least 70 mph if not 80 mph with no damage.

Usually the non-integrated non-front bumper type are not nearly as strong. I've used my RanchHand bumper assy to push a 18,000 lb military truck out of the mud. RanchHand sent me some merch as a bribe to use the video of me pushing it out and photos on their social media advertising.
