I am getting ready to purchase 25 chicks. I can have them vaccinated for Marek's disease for $10, and I am wondering if I should do that. Is Marek's disease a common enough problem in chicks to require vaccination?
For the first order, I vaccinated. It was pretty inexpensive. I had a couple losses here and there. After that, I skipped the Marek's, and had a couple of losses here and there.
I didn't see a benefit to it, bit I may be the exception, rather than the rule.
Yeah similarly, with my first order I ordered them vaccinated (cheap) and then bought some chicks off CL that werent , hatched out a couple sets (via broody hens) never vaccinated- and it didnt seem to make a difference, but- if its cheap and you can, why Not?....
Yep, spend the money for the vac...it is a common disease...I've seen it more than once in home hatched birds....do..it... in my opinion. It is worth the money.
