How many used VA loans for their homesteads? Any problems? What about a TX vet loan? ANy other states have sim programs?

We used a VA loan for our place. Not a bit of a problem...but it's only 5.5 acres, not a big spread. I don't know if the rules change when it's acreage, too. I just know you have to have a house on it and plan on living there.

My mortgage guy discourages VA loans because he says they use outdated guidelines for construction.

Almost all the new homes in NJ use electrical wiring guidelines designed for quick building, but do not comply with the VA.

The mortgager wants to get the transaction done with, so he goes with regular mortgage. I actually got a better rate than the VA. Money is cheap nowadays with all the low rates.

I plan to get another home with some acrage when I get back from Iraq.
