Transhumanism is a philosophical and intellectual movement that explores the potential of enhancing human capabilities through the use of technology. It advocates for the ethical use of emerging technologies to enhance and extend human life, intelligence, physical abilities, and overall well-being.

Transhumanists believe that humanity can and should strive to transcend its current limitations through advancements in fields such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and robotics. They envision a future where humans can overcome aging, disease, and even death, and where individuals can enhance their cognitive abilities, physical strength, and sensory perceptions.

The movement emphasizes the idea of using technology to augment human capabilities and to overcome biological constraints. This can include genetic engineering, cyborgization (the integration of technology with the human body), mind uploading (transferring consciousness to a digital medium), and other forms of human-machine integration.

Transhumanism is not a unified belief system, and different thinkers within the movement may have varying perspectives on specific technologies and ethical considerations. However, many transhumanists share a common goal of using technology to improve the human condition and expand the possibilities of what it means to be human.

It's worth noting that transhumanism raises important ethical and social questions regarding the impact of these technologies on society, individual autonomy, equality, and access to enhancement technologies. Discussions around the potential risks and benefits of transhumanist ideas are ongoing, and the movement continues to evolve as technology progresses.

May 25 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's brain-implant company Neuralink on Thursday said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had given the green light to its first-in-human clinical trial, a critical milestone after earlier struggles to gain approval.

Others that have received similar FDA approval

Neuralink will help humans connect their brains to machines through a special kind of interface

In a world where death is overcome, what becomes of new life? Or rather, who decides what new life would be acceptable? Genesis 3v4 seems so very long ago.

This is the $hit that makes me glad I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning of it. I fear for my grandkids.

"Twelve years ago, a cycling accident left Gert-Jan Oskam, now 40, with paralysed legs and partially paralysed arms, after his spinal cord was damaged in his neck. But these days, Oskam is back on his feet and walking, thanks to a device that creates a ‘digital bridge’ between his brain and the nerves below his injury1.

The implant has been life-changing, says Oskam. “Last week, there was something that needed to be painted and there was nobody to help me. So I took the walker and the paint, and I did it myself while I was standing,” he says"

There are plenty of good things that go along with the science that is working towards enhancing human abilities.

When you have been born into the greatest country, at the greatest time in the history of the world, everything that happens later will seem downhill. Of course, much of it will be, yet our kids will adapt.

You know, I hope so. But I’m worried we‘ve become a weak society. Mentally and physically. Reading The Coddling of the American Mind and it’s worrisome.

Of course we have become weakened. The improvements in quality of life do not make up for moral and cultural rot.
My genetics are good for about 90 years. That is good enough for me to enjoy my kids, grandchildren and ggc, and pass along enough of what I have learned in this world, mostly thru mistake and error. They can choose to benefit from it or not.
Ask yourself, if you are thankful for being blessed to exist when you did, would you want your kids to live in the same time period? Then, would you also wish that your parents and grandparents could do so as well?
Would they want to?

When I look around and see the destruction and chaos visited on Yahweh's creation through the abuse of technology, I find it incredibly hard to believe that marrying such tech with human life will be any sort of improvement.

OMG. It's from some AI generator. Why would I believe anything in it, and why would you put it out there as something I should believe? The source is just AI?(n):ROFLMAO:

Orchard, substitute AI with say, CNN. If both are legitimate sources of propaganda, then they will be parroted., so it is best that you prepare yourself. Know thine enemies, or something like that.

I guess I don't understand why HD posted this without comment. Which is why it's nice to have a little intro to things you post.

I can see the need for a computer controlled implant for people who have had brain injuries which interrupted the link to parts of their large motor functions. If I was in a place where I had the choice between a brain implant or a wheelchair for life (Christopher Reeve comes to mind) I would most likely take the implant.

If I was perfectly healthy I would have to say, "no way, Jose".

I have recently observed that a goodly number of "new members" appear to actually be AI. The posts read like someone cut/pasted pages directly from Encyclopedia Britannica.

At first, I thought it was one or two people who aren't clear on the concept. Then I realized that nah. They ain't real people.

Thanks for this, Pony. Is there a way for us to post a suspicion about this before investing too much time in responding? I must confess that this had never occurred to me.
