Came across a movie on Prime last night based on the life of Gareth Jones. It showed how the media and commerce of the day turned a blind eye to the atrocities of Nazi Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union. Most of the world's press was very favorable to Stalin and what they thought he was doing in the Soviet Union., that is, until Gareth Jones made a trip alone into Ukraine and reveled the truth. Jones had grit, determination and suffered greatly for challenging the narrative of the day. Where is Mr. Jones today when we need him so very badly?

Gareth Jones was the inspiration for the Mr. Jones character in Animal Farm.

Gareth Jones, who was also a personal aide to former prime minister David Lloyd George, helped expose Stalin's "holodomor" policy of deliberate starvation.

This claimed the lives of anywhere between 4m and 10m peasant farmers in the Ukraine during 1932/33. Jones also formed relations with the Nazis in Germany and even flew aboard Hitler's private plane. But in 1935 he was murdered in murky circumstances while reporting from Japanese-occupied Mongolia.

Commerce from Britain and the US was sucked into the Soviet Union to make a pound of dollars, and here we see history repeating itself...

The company, Mars Wrigley, reportedly faced backlash from Chinese social media users after promoting a limited edition Snickers bar that was said to only be available in the “countries” of Malaysia, South Korea, and Taiwan, Reuters reported.
Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times reported that the company “apologized for marking Taiwan island as a country, saying its local team has verified & aligned the official site and social media accounts to ensure accurate content.”

Fools think any tin pot dictator promising the moon will be their salvation. Maybe initially small improvements, usually more likely death and destruction longer term cause their first priority is personal power and wealth. Makes one wonder about people feeling so desperate they are wanting presidents for life in modern times.

The Great Depression was truly brutal leaving countless very economically desperate, amazing America got through it without some tinpot dictator coming to power here as they did in Europe and Asia. Desperate people grasp at straws and straw men.

We essentially did have a dictator-- FDR with an overwhelmingly Dem dominated, rubber-stamp Congress. The New Deal prolonged what should have been a 4 yr Depression into a 10 yr Ordeal. It took WW II to get everybody working again.

Never forget "A stitch in time saves nine". FDR's damage to our Republic is felt today.
