A scientific study has shown that Marconi Union's "Weightless" is the most relaxing song of all time. It can actually slow your heart rate and reduce blood pressure. The music video is pretty cool, too. Take a listen and see how relaxed it can make you feel.

Ok, I did the whole thing. There is absolutely nothing relaxing in that music, or video. In all honesty, I found it neurotic and full of anxiety. That's just me, however, I expect to be vindicated by popular consensus. :D

Sorry, but Vicker expressed exactly how the Marconi Union song made me feel.

To elaborate a little more on that:

The visuals...too snakelike, not soothing for me!

The music...nah, it unsettled me almost as much as the visuals did.

When it comes to pure escape/deep relaxation, I like stuff like these beautiful instrumentals, played at low volume when I need to study or concentrate on creative works:

I found this one and many more like it by typing "relaxing music" into the YouTube search bar. Some go for 8 hours without stopping!

Ignore the weird video in this one, but enjoy the music! It was the only song from the Celtic Dreamtime CD that I could find on Youtube.

I like it.

I can definitely see it as background music turned down very low during a massage or meditation.

Y'all can keep the dripping water noise. I had one of those tabletop fountains many moons ago and I hated it. It was like a faucet that would never turn off.

Metallica's version of Turn the Page does it for me. Different strokes I guess

There is just no way i can be objective to that music. Just reading the title made me feel like ' well I'll be danged if I'm going to feel relaxed' uh yeah a little rebellious ya think.

So if you ever want to share this with people would probably be a good idea if you can just ask them to tell you what they think after they listened Leave off the part about it being the most relaxing in the world.

I suspect a lot of people will react to the words like me!

There is so much quiet, soothing music and nature sounds to be listened to. Some of what I have on CD can't be found on Youtube. I have listened, off and on for years, to soma.fm's Drone Zone and have heard some utterly otherworldly music.

An example is Madrigals of The Rose Angel by Harold Budd and Brian Eno (look both of them up and listen to some of their work):

Next to it, on the right hand side, click on and listen to Juno. It is beautiful.

Purely by chance, I bought this CD way back when I was in the Classical Music Club. I have not regretted it. Listen to Erik Satie, Gymnopedie No. 1:

If you can find her CDs, try Carol Rosenberger. She plays piano and has some really nice quiet relaxing music. I can't find a good example on youtube. Maybe no one has uploaded anything yet.

Back when I was buying music, the Narada label had lots and lots of interesting music. Classics combined with the sound of the ocean, or a flowing stream, a nice thing to listen to.

I really like to listen to the nature sounds, and have some bookmarked.

Edit to add: I don't quite get the painting on the Satie selection. Just ignore it and listen.
