a little comfort food from my childhood, often consumed with the infamous tomato soup! seems it's been forever since I had one. guess I'm often lazy about lunch, being by myself I just grab...whatever. well...hub is home, and suddenly there he was ...wanting fed. (funny how he shows up for food) LOL behold! that grilled cheese sandwich came to mind. YUM...double YUM!!! all gooey goodness..hot..crispy...oozing cheesey wonder. I think I have a renewed addiction. now..if only I had my mama's tomato soup!

I love mine made with Swiss cheese, or good sharp Cheddar.
American cheese will do, in a pinch.

I love them, too. With a mix of cheeses on them. American (NOT singles!!) and Greuyer are my favorite mix.

My mom always made them by putting mayo on the outside. It wasn't until I was married that my husband saw me making him one and yelled in an excited manner "What on EARTH are you doing!??!" Turns out "normal" people use butter...

Did someone mention grilled cheese sandwiches? Yum. My favorite sandwich.

I like mine with bacon and sliced tomatoes - cook the bacon first then add the bacon and tomatoes to the cheese sandwich before grilling it in the bacon fat in the frying pan.

I also like grilled Velveeta or cheddar sandwiches done open faced under the broiler with a little bit of sliced onion on them - so nice all bubbley and browned. I call them 'growlies'. Delicious.

I like mine on sourdough rye best of all. BTW- the George Foreman grill does a pretty good job of it.

IMO, the best cheese for grilled cheese is pepper jack.

Roasted red pepper 'n' tomato soup and grilled cheese is always on the menu when we go camping. The other families we camp with are always envious .

I like a bunch of different kinds of grilled cheese sandwiches, but when making just a "plain" one, I use whole wheat bread, Miracle Whip on the inside, two slices of American cheese, and butter on the outside.

I've had many people say they were really good and wondered what the "secret" was, lol. I don't really know unless it's the Miracle Whip, I found most people don't use any kind of dressing on the inside, just the cheese, bread and butter. My sister's favorite is this old standby, but with a couple of thin slices of smoked ham in the middle.

Okay, now y'all have made me hungry for one! lol And some tomato basil florentine soup. I've already had dinner, maybe I'll make it tomorrow.
