    Ok here's a thought....

I see lots of threads for other areas getting together.. I'm thinkin its our turn, so I can stop living vicariously through their threads.

I would be more than happy to organize a get-together for us. I live about 30 mi NE of Houston (if ya wanna search for the area look up Dayton Texas on the map). There is a great State Park near here for a camp out/cook- out.
There is a great camp ground nearby too.

And then there is always our place. nothing fancy, but enough room for fun :).

If y'all are interested, chime in here. once we get an idea of how many people we are looking at I'll do more looking at locations and we can go from there.

I'm thinking something in the fall when we wont melt.
    A bon-fire, BBQ/Pot-Luck etc.

We can provide the Horseshoes, washers, vollyball, etc..

    any other ideas?
looking forward to meeting as many of y'all as we can!!

Howdy that sounds like a great idea and something to consider we are south of San Antonio in our little homestead. I am not sure when we can get away cause we will be getting our turkeys in July till Nov so would have to find a babysitter.

I would love to come to your farm but you seem really far from us. Houston I think is about a 4 hour drive, we will think of something, send me an email if you get any more people

Good idea Dana.. I will attend if possible. The size of Texas means the distance will be too great for some, but I know Texans that think nothing of driving more than 100 miles to a Friday night football game. Let me know how I can help...Glen

If I'm still living here in the fall that would be fun. Keep me posted. I'm about an hour and 1/2 away from there but only a few minutes from my parents. I sure would like to learn anything anyone can teach me, so if there was anyone that has something cool to teach I'd be up for that.

Here are things I could use help with (some experience on some of these, but only by trial and error learning, would like to see people who know what they are doing) but I don't know how condusive these would be in a park setting.

    canning
    weaving
    organic pest sprays
    sewing
    candle making
    soap making
    break making
anything to do with building or gardening
    how to work hand tools

For me, anything that would help on the homestead other than animal stuff.

So you're talking long about Oct or Nov? LOL

That's still a good long hike for me tho. I'm a bit NE of Austin. And will prob be starting to hatch ducks about then. So I'm interested, but can't promise anything. I'd have to find someone to sit my farm.

Sounds like fun. Depends on the kids with their school/sports schedule. October would be great if you could schedule it during the Round Top flea market. :)

    Yep,
I was/am thinking October would be a good time due to the heat here.

I've been doing some looking and am going to make some calls today, will post some ideas of locations later today.

Those of you interested.. how many people will be in your group/family?
Just a rough estimate, so I can get an idea.

    Thanks! I'm getting excited!

Shall we call this the 1st annual SE Texas Homesteaders Get together? :D
