Curious as to what kind of technology others are using on the farm to track their pigs or other animals, bookkeeping, etc. When I first got started, I found some small farm software available, but since I am a programmer by trade, I wrote an application that we use for tracking our pigs. We have a tablet at the barn that we can enter heat cycles, births, weaning, and other dates, weights, as well as entering expenses and income.

Curious as to what kind of technology others use to make things easier on the farm.

I use excel to track all the costs associated with our pigs. I can set it up to track weight gain, feed purchases, purchase dates and a bunch of other necessary data to show me just how much money i'm not making!;)

I like to keep it simple and flexible. Text files and spreadsheets are less likely to get orphaned than specialized software from some vendor that abandons the package or goes out of business.
