Maggie our adopted pup from the shelter has tape worms.

They treated her twice for them the paper work says.

When she poops there are worms in it.

Is there a home remedy to get rid of them?

The shelter is 50 miles one way.

TIA
Cindy

Tapeworms usually appear as little white rice under the tail. I don't think the puppy has tapeworms. Bring a fecal sample into a vet, they will test it and tell you which worms the puppy has.

I agree...worms passed in stool whole (unless recently wormed and they are dead or dying) are normally round worms- not tape. Rounds are easy to get rid of initally with pyrantel paomate (sp) and then once you give the monthly heartguard plus for heartworm prevention it will keep those away too.

Praziquantel works well for tape worms. You can find tapeworm segments stuck to the back end of the dog (they're VERY sticky) or on the dog's face or in it's feces. They do look kind of like rice, maybe a tiny bit bigger like maggots, and they move sort of like a leach - ineffectively but definitely moving.

I never suspected my dog could have tapeworms until I happened to be able to see her butt when she was sleeping and this horrifying white thing came waving out of her. She never had anything stick to her, but when I read up on tapeworm and the "rice" appearance, I did see a few dried up on her bed. The mature worm separates small segments, maybe less than a 1/2", and they are strangely white. I never saw anything by inspecting (and I mean mash and smear on plate glass) her poo. I think a close check on bedding is the best way to actually see signs, but by then the worm has been inside for a long time.

I called the shelter we adopted her from and they where able to move her spayed date up from 7-17 to 6-30.
I told them about her having worms, needing her rabies shot and another problem that is why they where able to move her date up.

So Thursday everything will be taken care of for her.
