Wondering if anyone has a good method of tanning rabbit hides? I've tanned deer hides using a brain tanning method with reasonable success but the process is not meant for smaller, thinner hides such as those on rabbits.(www.braintan.com - excellent information on preserving bigger hides). I have one 'recipe' that uses battery acid & salt...wondering if anyone has a tried & true method that works for them...hate to ruin a bunch of nice rex pelts.
Actually, the best thing to do is to obtain (or borrow) a copy of the book, "Tan Your Hide" by Phyllis Hobson. This one book is highly acclaimed and contains several different recipies for tanning small animal pelts as well as larger animals. Years ago, I was successfully tanning rabbit pelts using only salt, yellow bar laundry soap and baby oil... and LOTS of elbow grease! I would post this on the main message board- someone who doesn't have rabbits might still have experience with similar animals
