Switching milk replacer and raw milk on a calf

601 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  RMarsh44
Hi everyone, we picked up a second calf for our dairy cow but we're keeping her separated for a few days. I gave her milk from our cow last night and this morning, but my husband mentioned using up the rest of our bag of MR on her instead. I didn't actually ask the dairy that we got her from yesterday if they were using MR or cow's milk, but I'm worried about keeping up with this switching milks on the calf. Does anyone have info on this? Thanks

Try doing half and half? Better for the calf than full switch, IMHO.

Why don't you call the dairy and ask?

My question was more like, "is it ok to switching between the two" than,"can anyone tell me what the dairy I bought my calf from used" but thanks for your interest in my question anyways!

Sure that might be fine, but I'm just looking for someone who maybe has done this a couple of times or has knowledge in the area of. Thanks!
Switching back and forth is NOT a good idea. It may cause scours.

Alright, scours was my concern but I didn't know if if would come just from too much mr or if it could be caused by changing back and forth. Thanks everyone!
