In the warm months I remove mine when the Kits start getting out all the time..in cold months about a week before I wean them..some use it that long and some don't.

You might also want to consider making a nesting box out of pine boards next time. Cardboard boxes really aren't good to use. You would want to leave them in until they are weaned... at least 6 weeks.

The only stupid question is the one you do not ask!!
I have to take my nest boxes out early in the summer for they have solid bottoms and with the pee in them the flys get to them. I just can stand a maggot.
In the winter I leave them in longer.

Mine are removed by day 16 in the summer. In really hot weather, the
kits are coming out by day 12 or 14. I'll remove the box and place
a piece of plastic pegboard in for a cuddling spot. In the winter the
boxes are removed (usually) by day 21. This has worked very well
for my NZ and CALS for 8 years.
