And in developing countries 'sweat equity' is so much cheaper than chemical inputs you come out way ahead financially as well. Not to mention if you're farming for family food not just market your variety can help the farm- biodiversity not one huge corn field.

Robert Rodale started preaching this in the 40's. Either his Foundation or Organic Gardening Magazine (his favorite publication!) has had a decades long demonstration project on a farm in Pennsylvania (I think) that uses only organic techniques. It's not a little farm either.
