I am trying to find info. on the amount of wattage that transformers use while on. I am would think that the size of the transformer would determine its usage, but so far have not found any info. on this subject. Any help will be appreciated.

[ame]http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&newwindow=1&rlz=1T4GGLL_en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=transformer+efficiency&spell=1[/ame]

Heat is the result of the loss,

of your working with a plug in unit get a "kill-A-Watt Energy Meter"

The "wattage" would also change according to if the transformer is running idle or under load. I could only guess, so I will ask--What are you trying to do/figure---give us a example and maybe we can help you more!

Thanks of your help and to answer Riverman's question, Earlier this year, we started a small homestead on the island of Samoa. We took a generator, microwave, 12v flourescent lights and a few other kitchen gagets that run on 110watts and a frig. that would run on Ac or DC. We were not sure if or how long before we could get power. We picked up a marine battery while there for when the generator was off to keep the frig. running and for lights. Our little set up worked very well for the 5 1/2 months that we were there, but gas is very expensive there and 230w power available. We plan to return in the spring and looking for a transformer that will meet our needs, but was trying to figure out how much power a transformer would use if running 24 hours a day. We already have a small transformer that might could be of use also. This is all new to us and just not sure what direction to go. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
